Aaron Jasinski

February 28, 2007

It seems that when someone is blessed with the creative mind it filters into all aspects of their life. I find that most musicians also excel in some sort of visual creativity as well. For instance, I make music and I am a designer. Mark Rushton makes music and he is a painter (more on him later this week).

And Aaron Jasinski is a musician and an illustrator.

But of course, in this blog we concentrate on electronic music so take a listen to his music. His website contains tracks from 6 different albums – 55 full length tracks in all. The songs range from the soundtrack laced Electric Feeling Machine, to the pop ballad electronica of Endings and Beginnings, from the nearly bigbeat Ocean’s Eleven-ish sound of Remembered Fables to the ambient soundscapes of Humidity and almost every genre in between. There is a ton of good stuff here. I would definately recommend checking out 3, 10, 17, 22, 26, 33, 42 and 50. But really, almost every track is enjoyable here.

And yes, while you are at it, check out his artwork too. It really does rock.

BBC Radiophonic Workshop, classic electronica and SciFi shows.

February 27, 2007

Wow. Wow.
This is an absolutely stunning documentary on the genius and innovation behind the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. From tape machines, editing techniques, synthisizers and classic electronic music, to science fiction shows and Dr. Who these videos are an experience you won’t want to miss. Take a half hour and watch these seven videos.

(Oh, and who is that guy in the background? I thought he was the interviewer at first, but I guess not. Maybe I missed something and they told us who it is in the videos. If you know, email me please. I feel like I am missing out on an inside joke.)

And after that, as a special treat, check out Orbital’s version of the Dr. Who theme. Gotta love a song that never really gets old.

Making those computers sing.

February 26, 2007

“Famous sounds” are sounds that have been created or used by somebody, liked and then copied by many others, and thus earned a “classic” status.

Ahem.

ps~ this begs for a new catagory, so I created “Classic electronica” for posts such as this one.

Redesign the NFS header image.

February 26, 2007

Ok, so this has been done by a bunch of other sites, and is far from an original idea, but I wanted to have fun with it too. So, I am doing an ongoing remix the header image competition. There might not be any prizes, but you get a link back to your site out of the deal. Plus, you get to see your rockin’ image grace the top of this site.

The dimensions are 750 x 140. Go nuts and design something nice. Then send it to me at my email address (see the sidebar).

I will be posting a new image every week on Monday. So, keep them coming and I will keep the rotation going.

Thanks.

perfect day for Globespinning.

February 26, 2007

Well, it’s Monday morning, it’s snowing outside, and I have a ton of work to do. What should I listen to while working?
Only one of the best chillout mixes ever : Cardamar’s Globespinning.

Of course.

BinaryMillenium video for HisBoyElroy.

February 25, 2007

One of my favorite artists is Tennessee based His Boy Elroy. His music is mainly breakbeat trance. Well, yesterday while browsing his myspace page, I saw that someone called BinaryMillenium has created animated video for HBE’s Revolve track. The video is (almost) all black & white animation of moving patterns. It is a little hard to describe but definately worth seeing.

You can check out the video here. I love it. It is a bit different, but definately creative, and definately worth a view or two.

Aldo Strada + Chris Harrington mixes.

February 25, 2007

I am always downloading mixes from around the net. I listen to 4 or 5 new podcasts or mixes each week. I will try to post a good amount of them on this blog so that you can hear what I am listening to.

So, today I came across this podcast mix by Aldo Strada and Chris Harrington. I have heard some amazing stuff from CH in the past so I wanted to snag this mix to hear what he has been up to lately. I have to say, this mix really caught my ear. Aldo drops in with a great track by Kelis which carries us through a half hour of slick house music. It is a perfect night listening excursion. And then Chris H comes in for an hour mix of afterhours chilled house. The entire podcast is a hour and 28 minutes of afterhours dance grooves.

I personally loved it. It will get listened to a few times this week.
Thumbs up to the two DJs for bringing a entertaining original podcast to our ears.

Entomologist’s techno dream.

February 23, 2007

This might be fairly old news to some of you, but I thought I would mention it for anyone who missed it the first time around.

Today I was again watching the bug ridden video of Clark’s TED track. The track itself is a raw techno industrial style instrumental that keeps you guessing all the way through. But it is strangely addicting.

And the video for the song rocks. Done by 1st Ave Machine, the entire video is bugs. I don’t mean the car by VW, I mean swishy-wormy-alien looking entomology subjects that didn’t get a pin through their back yet. The whole thing is quite dark and menacing, but still got me to watch it more than once.

You can check out the video here. And more of Clark’s music here.

In Medias Res text.

February 23, 2007

Cardamar wanted me to write a paragraph for my CD. I wasn’t sure exactly what to write or how creative I should be so I just put down some words. I am sure I will be editing this a bit, but so far I have :

Borrowing concepts from the John Eldredge book, Epic, S. Zeilenga creates a soundtrack to the stories that are our lives. In Medias Res (Latin for “in the midst of things”) is where we find ourselves every morning as we awake in strange lands, explore uncharted continents where there are no roads, and then arrive safely in that secret place of evening. This is music for your daily adventure no matter what it may involve or where it may take you.

If you want to hear what I am trying to describe above, check out my CD here at Cardamar Music.

Random Weekend Adventure Track.

February 23, 2007

RWATRandom Weekend Adventure Tracks (RWAT) will be posted every friday. These will be songs that are meant to soundtrack a little weekend adventure. Use these tracks to inspire a weekend trek, an outdoor activity, or just few hours in a good book. Enjoy.

RWAT – Friday, February 23
Earlier this week, one of my friends reminded me of Orbital’s amazing Halcyon+on+on song. I had this on CD a few years back and I had it playing in my car on many roadtrips. The warm strings and piano overlay a simple bass line, slowly building the song as a speaking-in-tongues female vocal leads us by the hand into an epic 9 minute electronica trip. (heh, how do you like that as a description?) It’s perfect for the first RWAT.
