Although the first release is still months away, there is activity going on to get the record label side of NFS up and running. The first few releases will probably be mp3 albums (and a few physical CDs in Jewelboxing for the locals) as we build a customer base. The money gained from the first releases will go back into the mix to release more and more music. Like I said, this is still all in the beginning stages.
But as I think about mp3 albums, it strikes me that most digital downloads are, well… boring. Don’t you think? I mean, sure you get the song you want to listen to, but surely there is more that could be included. At least with a CD you get some artwork to look at, a few shout outs and thank yous to read, maybe a video, a poster etc etc. But most mp3 albums and digital downloads have nothing but the music and maybe an album cover image. Assuming there are a lot of visual people like me out there, I wonder if it is time to build a better mp3 album.
So, what should go in to a digital download album? Full printable album covers would be cool. Maybe some nice posters. Videos for sure. But what about other things? Might as well get creative while we are brainstorming. What about stories? Or poetry that goes with each song? Photography portfolio? Flash presentations?
Really, the creative possiblities are only limited by what can and cannot be digitalized for inclusion in the download. So, does anyone have any other ideas? Leave them in the comments section and maybe we can come up with something amazing.
The first release on NFS will be packed full of goodies. And music.

Drew brings up a good point. He was saying that most media players will not be able to download the extra content. For instance, iTunes will just give you access to the songs themselves. So, in that case, the only thing available would be the music and maybe a cover art image.
But I think what I will do with NFS releases is 1) have the songs for sale separately in an mp3 store such as iTunes or Beatport, 2) have a special site that will be set up through paypal so they can download all the mp3s plus the extras and 3) a limited run of physical CDs using Jewelboxing with the extras included on the disk. That way the listener can kind of pick and choose what he/she wants. If that means just the music, then there is the mp3 store option, but if they would like the extras then there will be opportunities to recieve those as well.
