I have returned.

December 12, 2007

After a far-too-long hiatus from the internet, I have returned as of 2 hours ago. I may be in a different location and time zone, but I am glad to say the transitional period has been completed. I will be starting to write in NFS on a daily basis again.

So, for all your electronic music tastes, please begin looking here at NFS once more. Thanks for your patience.

Please, venture over to my personal blog.

March 21, 2007

I am fully aware of the power of “out of sight, out of mind” so I may have lost a ton of my readers by now. It stinks because I was just getting going on this NFS idea. Grrrr.

But if you are still checking in on this blog, please venture over to my personal blog at www.szeilenga.wordpress.com and read over there. Because I don’t have internet at home currently, I go over to the Employment office down the street and use their computers, but since I am supposed to be looking for a job, my personal site looks more like a resume than NFS. So, I can get away with working on that blog as opposed to messing around with music at the NFS blog.

So, if you want to get a little more info on what Scott Zeilenga is up to and how the October sounds Lovely album is coming, just go to szeilenga.wordpress.com.

Thanks.

What happens when you don’t pay up…

March 18, 2007

Hey all. Sorry for the lack of posting. I live with 3 roommates and when the others don’t have the money to pay the bill, my third of the payment doesn’t satisfy the ISP.

So, I got my home internet shut off. GRrrrr…

I will be posting as often as I can get to the internet. If you want to help me out (hint hint) I will give you free music. Plus, you will be helping maintain the writing and research of this blog. I have a paypal account and you can just email me for the info. That would rock, donations are definately accepted.

Ok, well, I will post soon.

October sounds Lovely.

March 14, 2007

Yes it does, doesn’t it…

cover1 You will notice a new tab at the top of this blog page. If you click on it you will see some information on my next album. I will be selling it here and at myspace and a few other places. This will not be something you want to miss, even if you don’t like ambient. There are a ton of cool extras and I think it is probalby my best compositions to date. It will be perfect music for this tall-tale called reality – whether it is the month of October or not.

Check back in a few weeks for the release date. And if you want to plan an adventure (roadtrip?) around the music, now might be a good time to start planning. heh.

Yes, it does, doesn’t it.

And it is coming… in a few weeks. (The album, not the month. That would just be silly.)

South by Southwest (SXSW)

March 12, 2007

SXSWOk, so this post isn’t directly electronic music related. But I figure if anyone should have a handle on new media innovation it should be those of the electronica persuasion. What better person to produce high quality media than those who are always messing with knobs and buttons and software.

So, even though we couldn’t make it this year (again… sigh), the podcasts from the speakers are already being posted. You can listen to a variety of great minds on a variety of great topics. Check out the podcasts here.

Enjoy.

NFS tshirts.

March 11, 2007

NFS shirtsCheck the sidebar. There are some tshirts that I threw together for NFS. I have other better ideas but it is already midnight and I will wait until later to put them onto shirts. Expect some cool EDM designs though.

For now, you can buy NFS shirts and support the site at cafepress.com/nonfictionsound

Digital Aura.

March 10, 2007

In the realm of electronic music, however, everything from the inception of the song, the lyrics, the musical phrasing, the instrumentation, the performance…right down to the mix-down and mastering of the final audio file is done by the artist. Most people are completely unaware of what they DON’T hear in a song. Things like creating the proper structure for a track, so that tension is created. If a listener doesn’t feel any tension in a build or if they don’t anticipate a break in the music, then there is no climax, no sense of fulfillment and no thrill in the journey. This is the art.

Digital Aura writes some great thoughts and insights on his webpage. And while you are over there, check out his music too. Great stuff.

Underworld gets it.

March 7, 2007

Pizza for EggsAs if on cue, Underworld illustrates my last post perfectly. I was poking around the Underworld site and found that they have been releasing little artsy EPs for a while now. The releases are 5 dollars and include a selection of tracks all mixed together (which is another good idea), a gallery of photography, and a pdf album cover design. A perfect little package that I don’t mind downloading just to get the whole experience.

So, there are people successfully doing it. Now it is just a matter of figuring out what I want to do with NFS releases.
